In Paris, Flower Children On Parade

Hothouse blooms and leafy plants are springing up everywhere at the Paris men’s shows (and not just because Louis Vuitton showed Kim Jones’ first collection in their usual sultry greenhouse space in the 15th). Bold print has been one of the hallmarks of the season since Prada, Versace, and D&G went maximal in Milan, but here in Paris, there’s a floral cast. For their second men’s collection for Valentino, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli reimagined camouflage as an army green palm tree print—a Hawaiian in disguise, literally. (It fit in nicely with the odd resurgence of tropical chic, wholesale Iceberg, from Opening Ceremony and Reyn Spooner’s new collab to Stella McCartney’s Resort womenswear to Jean Paul Gaultier’s floral bermuda shorts and full-on Hawaiian tux. Christophe Lemaire, too, screened oversize flowers, borrowed from a midcentury print, on blouson jackets and slouchy pajama-style pants. It remains to be seen whether the purple blossoms Riccardo Tisci grew for Givenchy’s Fall ‘11 womenswear collection will reappear tonight at his men’s show, or whether Lemaire’s new green thumb will carry over into his second Hermès collection.

Mila Kunis Does Dior

Christian Dior has enlisted its second Black Swan star, Mila Kunis, to be a face for the brand. Kunis,Discount Louis Vuitton coat, who calls herself a “jeans and T-shirt” type of girl, joins the ranks of Dior ambassadors like Swan co-star Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron, and Sharon Stone. The actress is the new face of the Mikael Jansson-shot Miss Dior handbag campaign, set to debut this month in international issues of Elle, Vogue, and Madame Figaro.

“Mila Kunis is a very talented young actress; she embodies the true modern woman. Her performance in Black Swan was remarkable. She is very gifted,” Dior deputy general manager Delphine Arnault tells WWD. “We are looking forward to a long relationship with her.”

Of her new role with Dior, Kunis, who just finished filming Oz: The Great and The Powerful with James Franco, admits, “I’m honestly just learning about fashion.” Lucky for her, Dior is not a bad place to start a fashion education.

Your Homework Assignment

The dog days of summer are winding down, and the suntanned kids of the world are preparing to head back to school. And the over-22 set? They’re just planning to dress like it. This September, we’re in the mood for collegiate style, thanks to all the great pleated skirts, boy blazers,Discount Burberry kids, varsity jackets, and slouchy, schoolyard sweatshirts we’ve been dreaming of lately—our senior market editor, Marina Larroude, rounded the best of them up this week. And over the next few weeks, two new books will arrive to accessorize your quad-ready look.

Lisa Birnbach, author of the original Official Preppy Handbook, files her second dispatch from the gin-soaked, Nantucket red front lines of WASP-dom with True Prep—subtitle: It’s a Whole New Old World. (Case in point: Hereby elected to the preppy hall of fame are Michelle Obama and Al Franken.) Co-created with Chip Kidd (one of the best book designers in the business), True Prep ($13.46, available September 7 at Amazon.com) is full of handy intel, like the 43 preppiest places to have a summer home, the relative widths of prep-favored fashion logos (the Lacoste croc is 2.8 cm, while Brooks Brothers’ sheep is 0.875″), a roundup of acceptable men’s loafers (Stubbs & Wootton, natch) and the ingredients to a Mixed Marriage (gin, vodka, vermouth, olives or a twist). Mummy will have three.

And the blog-beloved Take Ivy ($14.97, available August 31 at Amazon.com), Japanese photographer Teruyoshi Hayashida chronicle of the stylish men of the early-sixties northeastern college campus, is reissued this month. (After being talked up by blogger Michael Williams at A Continuous Lean, prices for the out-of-print tome skyrocketed on eBay.) Originally published in 1965, it’s got enough khaki, corduroy, and leaf-dusted gothic architecture to sate even the most blue-blooded Yale man. Boola boola!

On Our Radar Valentino Resort Backpacks

The new stewards of Valentino, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, have got their red-carpet bona fides in order, so for Resort, they’ve extended the line deeper into daywear. The accessories, no surprise, are going in the same direction. (Chiuri and Piccioli, after all, began their careers at Valentino in the accessories department.) Yes, you can still find the most embellished evening bags, the satin pumps, and Chantilly lace pieces, but what really caught my eye were the more casual pieces, like these nylon backpacks. They’re done in the same soft floral prints used for many of the ready-to-wear pieces, wholesale Coogi, and finished (of course!) with the Valentino bow. Adorable—if maybe a little too glamorous for a picnic in the park.

Three’s A Trend Sheer Skirts

It’s not the likeliest of on-the-street looks, but the opening numbers at Vuitton this morning confirmed an odd little trendlet that’s been popping up throughout Paris: see-through skirts. Aymeline Valade opened Marc Jacobs’ latest show with a slightly fetish-y transparent top, patent leather corset belt, and sheer skirt. Similar skirts were one of the focal points of Riccardo Tisci’s Givenchy collection earlier this week, where they were shown with velvet and leather peplums, and came in both pencil and A-line shapes. And even Stella McCartney, in her surprising Fall show, wholesale Ralph Lauren t-shirts, gave the look a whirl: In the late, polka-dot section of her collection, she showed a sheer skirt over sheer pants, all topped off with an oversized jacket. Skirts, we hardly knew—make that, hardly saw—ye!

Spotted At Couture Babushka Chic

Gaultier was showing twisting turbans and Galliano (with an assist from Stephen Jones) wrapped his girls’ heads like flower-shop bouquets, but we’re just as intrigued by some headgear spotted in the crowd—the babushka-style shawls favored by Uliana Sergeenko. The Russian couture client and photographer has been bringing a Muscovite breeze to the Paris shows with her wraps. It’s unexpected,Replica Tom Ford Sunglasses, but it works. Tommy Ton snapped her in two different versions as she made her way through the week.

Men and Women in BLK [DNM]

Johan Lindeberg is a man on a mission. Since launching his contemporary label, BLK DNM,wholesale Juicy Couture tracksuits, in February, he has opened a pop-up store on Lafayette Street (which, he revealed to Style.com, is now a permanent retail address), and published the biannual BLK DNM Gazette, featuring the brand’s collaborative efforts with his posse of downtown artist and filmmaker friends. The Swedish designer also has a forthcoming unisex fragrance . Today, he unveils one more addition to the BLK DNM family—sunglasses. The look of the limited-edition, unisex styles is very Lindeberg. Created in collaboration with the nearly 100-year-old eyewear brand, Moscot, the shades are sleek and jet black—just like the frames he regularly sports. “I didn’t want them to look too preppy,” Lindeberg told Style.com of the three different options. Each style rings up at $295.

The collection will be available starting tomorrow at the BLK DNM store, located at 237 Lafayette Street, NYC, and online at moscot.com and BLKDNM.com.

NYSE Euronext eyes new sectors for growth

LONDON (Reuters) NYSE Euronext (NYX.N) signaled it would shift focus to faster-growing areas like supplying computer systems and information from trading, as the U.S. exchange looks to an independent future following the collapse of a takeover by Deutsche Boerse.

NYSE, whose $7.4 billion takeover by German peer Deutsche Boerse (DB1Gn.DE) was scuppered last week, on Friday posted a 13 percent rise in fourth-quarter operating profit to $212 million, compared with a forecast for $208 million.

“Despite challenging market conditions, our fourth-quarter results were solid with an increasing contribution from non-trading revenue sources and continued cost discipline,” chief financial officer Michael Geltzeiler said.

Information and technology were the drivers behind the profit hike, with revenue in that unit up 11 percent to $127 million, compared with a 1 percent fall in futures trading and a 2 percent rise in share trading.

NYSE, like rivals Deutsche Boerse, the London Stock exchange (LSE.L) and Nasdaq OMX (NDAQ.O),has seen its core trading units squeezed by cheaper rivals in recent years.

This has prompted the world’s top exchanges to reassess their role and look to non-core areas, such as supplying trading systems and information to clients, to drive growth.

NYSE chief executive Duncan Niederauer said after the Deutsche Boerse deal failed last week that five of NYSE Euronext’s past six acquisitions were technology assets and he expected more of these deals.

“I would not expect us, nor anyone else in the industry, to do a mega-merger any time soon,” Niederauer said. “Everyone is going to kind of take a pause and reassess the landscape.”

The European Commission killed the NYSE-Boerse deal, which would have created the world’s biggest stock exchange operator,Discount Ed hardy hats, saying the combined entity’s near-monopoly would make it hard for new players to compete.

NYSE Euronext has also been seen by analysts as an obvious rival bidder for European clearing house LCH.Clearnet, which has been in exclusive sales talks with the London Stock Exchange (LSE.L) since September.

NYSE was in talks about a possible joint bid for LCH with data vendor Markit but the plan was scrapped in the middle part of last year as the LSE emerged as the front-runner.

LCH.Clearnet chief executive Ian Axe said on Friday: “We are willing to take calls but we are currently in negotiations with the LSE.”

Geltzeiler said on Friday NYSE Euronext will detail its two-year growth plan at an investor day in April.

Recessionista Aggro-Chic - UsMagazine.com

This spiky little denim purse recalls tough girl Suzi Quatro from the ’70s.

Why? It’s cute but still looks a little dangerous. Plus, it has the three aggro-chic staples: leather, chains and denim.

The size and shape of this purse is a nice alternative to all of my gold grommets and studs that have invaded my closet and my life.

I do like to mix the metals every once in a while, too. Skip the silver chains around the wrist and neck and break out that bling. I’ll be wearing this with jeans and a leather jacket or a faux-fur vest.

What’s also great about this not-your-standard-evening-bag satchel is that I can leave the big old super-sized day bag behind and proudly display this at night and give my back a rest! (Lugging fashions “it” bags look a little dopey when you’re out for a cocktail.)

But the best thing is,wholesale Ankh Royalty, it’s only $32.
